Walton County Veterans Memorial Monroe Georgia

“Their Duty was to Serve, Our Duty is to Remember…”

The idea for a veteran’s memorial for Walton County started with a conversation in 2005 between Commissioner Kevin Little and Joe Jackson – a WWII veteran who witnessed the raising of the U.S. Flag at Iwo Jima in 1945. The veterans of Walton County now had a promise of having a proper memorial to honor their service.

Plans were then put in place that one day a memorial would be built, and what better place than the Walton County Government Building. Being centrally located in the county and one of the most common places that All of our citizens come together.

In the winter of 2014, a group of volunteers were assembled. Through their efforts, the veterans of Walton County have been assured to have a proper place to honor the men and women who have so proudly served their country, community and families.
